Quartz or automatic – which is better for a women's watch?

Quartz movements are very accurate, low-maintenance and allow flat, light cases. Automatic movements do without a battery and delight with their mechanics, but need to be worn regularly or kept on a watch winder so that they don't stop.
Which strap suits which occasion?

Stainless steel and Milanese straps are robust and suit the office as well as an evening dress. Leather straps look classic and warm but should not get wet. Silicone and resin straps are suitable for sport and leisure.
What should I look out for when giving a women's watch as a gift?
