Brass is considered a highly corrosion-resistant material, especially in industrial and marine environments. Its resistance to cleaning agents is generally good; however, contact with strong acids (such as hydrochloric acid) or ammonia-based substances should be avoided, as these can damage the material.
For the care and protection of surfaces in decorative projects, special brass polishes or home remedies such as a mixture of lemon and salt for a matte finish are suitable. To create an artificial patina, home remedies such as vinegar and salt or baking soda solutions can be used; for professional results with an antique look, blue, or black, special patinas and liver of sulfur solutions are available.
