The different materials used for Slavic temple rings, such as bronze, silver, and gold, primarily served as indicators of the wearer's wealth and social status. While simple rings made of base metal or bronze were widespread, elaborately crafted silver examples with filigree decorations or granulation attested to high artistry and membership in a socially privileged class. Archaeological finds in graves, hillforts, and hoards also demonstrate that these pieces of jewelry were often worn on ribbons or headdresses and reflected regional identities as well as the wealth of Slavic courts.
