Various types of leather are used for leather pouches, including full-grain, top-grain, and split leather (genuine leather). Full-grain leather is the highest quality, being particularly robust and moisture-resistant, and developing a characteristic patina over time. It should be sparingly oiled occasionally and treated with leather conditioner as needed. Top-grain leather, on the other hand, is lightly sanded to remove imperfections, making it softer and smoother, but also somewhat less durable. For its care, a mild leather lotion and protection from extreme moisture or heat are recommended.
