The Karfunkel Codex 7 identifies the pointed arch, the ribbed vault, and the flying buttress system (flying arches and buttresses) as key architectural features of Gothic architecture, enabling greater verticality and larger window areas. The cathedrals of Saint-Denis, Chartres, Reims, Amiens, and Laon, as well as Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, are cited as particularly important examples from the golden age of this period. The volume also discusses the articulation of walls through arcades, triforiums, and the use of light.
