This set is based on historical finds from Camulodunum, present-day Colchester in England. The Lorica Hamata, with this type of shoulder attachment, is historically documented for legionaries and auxiliary troops of the Roman army over several centuries.

Brass components should be regularly wiped with a soft cloth to remove sweat and dirt, and occasionally cleaned with a special brass polish or home remedies such as a vinegar and salt solution to prevent verdigris. Leather parts must be kept dry and regularly treated with leather grease or oil (e.g., mink oil) to keep them supple and prevent material fatigue from drying out. Since chainmail is often oiled, direct contact with unprotected leather should be avoided, or the leather should be cleaned after contact to prevent chemical reactions.
