Glass bead finds from Haithabu are of great importance to archaeology, as the more than 7,000 discovered beads and production remnants mark the site as a significant center of glass bead manufacturing and a central trading hub of the Viking Age. They provide important insights into early medieval trade transport and local craft techniques. Today, handcrafted replicas are produced using methods based on historical techniques: glass rods are melted over a torch, and the viscous mass is wound onto a rotating mandrel. Through precise rotation, the use of gravity, and the incising of patterns, detailed, unique pieces are created, which then must be cooled under controlled conditions.

The length of the necklace can be individually adjusted, as the glass beads are strung on a leather cord. Each piece is unique, since the beads are individually hand-wound and therefore vary slightly in shape and color.

The glass beads exhibit a wide variety of shapes, with disc-shaped beads being the most common, followed by double-conical and melon-ribbed varieties. Color-wise, shades such as blue, orange, dark red, and petrol green predominate, appearing in varying degrees of transparency from opaque to clear. The designs are precisely based on archaeological finds from the graves and settlement layers of Haithabu, with size, colors, and patterns faithfully reproduced by hand after intensive research.
