To ensure a long lifespan for the diamond surface of the DMT Diafold sharpening cone, the tool should be cleaned after each use to remove metal shavings that can clog the surface. Wipe the stone with a damp cloth or rinse it thoroughly under running water. Occasionally, a deep cleaning with a standard cleaning agent and a stiff nylon brush is recommended. After cleaning, the sharpener should be stored in a dry place. When sharpening, only gentle pressure should be applied, as the diamonds do the work and excessive pressure unnecessarily stresses the surface. Sharpening can be done dry or with water, but oil should not be used.
