In the Middle Ages, a cloak like the Paul model was an essential garment for ordinary people, serving primarily as protection against the elements, cold, and rain. While precious fabrics and fur linings were reserved for the upper classes, peasants and commoners wore simple, mostly undyed wool cloaks as practical all-weather protection. Today, this model is particularly suitable for live-action role-playing (LARP) and reenactment, allowing for the portrayal of authentic characters such as market vendors or ordinary travelers, as well as for carnival and Mardi Gras celebrations, providing a versatile basis for historical costumes.
