As a general rule of thumb: The diameter of the watch should match the circumference of the wrist. For a narrow wrist (under 17 cm in circumference), case sizes of 38 to 40 mm are ideal. For average wrists (17 to 19 cm), 40 to 42 mm looks most harmonious. For very large wrists (over 19 cm), more substantial watches with a diameter of 43 to 46 mm are also suitable. Important: The lugs (the "horns" to which the strap is attached) should never extend beyond the wrist.

Traditionally, watches are always worn on the non-dominant hand. This means right-handed people wear their watches on their left wrist, and left-handed people on their right. This is purely for practical reasons. The watch is better protected from bumps, scratches, and vibrations (e.g., while writing or doing manual work) on the non-dominant hand, and the crown is easier to operate with the dominant hand. Ultimately, however, it's also a matter of personal comfort these days.

For normal soiling from sweat or dust, it's sufficient to regularly wipe the case and crystal with a dry microfiber or eyeglass cleaning cloth. If the watch is at least 5 ATM water-resistant and has a stainless steel or rubber strap, you can easily rinse it under lukewarm water (without harsh soap). Leather straps require special care: they should avoid water, as it can become brittle or absorb odors. Occasional dabbing and treatment with a little leather conditioner are sufficient.

ATM stands for atmosphere and indicates how much pressure a watch case can withstand. One ATM corresponds to the static pressure at a depth of approximately 10 meters. It's important to understand, however, that these meter specifications (such as 50 m at 5 ATM) do not represent actual diving depths, but are merely laboratory values. In practice, pressure spikes caused by movements while swimming or by a water jet can quickly exceed the static pressure.
