The ideal age for a child to have their first clock is usually between 5 and 6 years old. During this phase, children begin to actively take an interest in numbers, and the approaching start of school makes understanding time increasingly important. Simple learning clocks perfectly support this developmental step.

Quite simply: Analog! Only a clock with hands and a round face conveys a spatial sense of time ("A quarter of an hour has passed"). Digital clocks only show bare numbers, which is why educators only recommend them once the child has fully grasped the analog system.

Children often forget to take off their watches when washing their hands, playing with water pistols, or during a rain shower. A children's watch should therefore have at least a splash resistance of 3 ATM (preferably 5 ATM). However, this is not sufficient for swimming in a pool or the sea – for that, the watch should explicitly have a water resistance of at least 10 ATM.

The watch should sit securely on the wrist without slipping, but it must not constrict the wrist. A good rule of thumb: You should be able to fit just enough room for a parent's little finger between the strap and the child's wrist. Fabric and Velcro straps are particularly practical here, as they can be adjusted precisely and continuously to fit even the smallest child's wrist.
