Friedrich half-boot: medieval shoe

The Friedrich ankle boots are made of handcrafted, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather with a sturdy upper thickness of approximately 2 mm. Their historical authenticity is based on the detailed reproduction of shoe models from the High Middle Ages, dating from 1100 to 1400 AD, with the characteristic all-around strap closure being a particularly distinguishing feature compared to other medieval models.

To ensure the longevity of the Friedrich ankle boots, the vegetable-tanned cowhide leather should be regularly cleaned of dirt with a damp cloth and then treated with a suitable leather care product, such as leather milk or a conditioning lotion. To keep the leather supple and prevent cracking, the application of leather grease or wax, applied sparingly with a cloth, is also recommended. It is important to allow the nailed boots to dry slowly at room temperature after contact with moisture, away from direct heat sources such as radiators, to prevent the natural material from becoming brittle.

The sole is made of approximately 7 mm thick, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather. A cobbler can easily add a rubber sole to improve traction.

The design of the Friedrich ankle boots is authentic to the High Middle Ages period, between 1100 and 1400 AD. They feature a wraparound strap closure.
